About Spirit Winds
Spirit Winds Therapy is a holistic physical therapy clinic where ìEast meets Westî. A Western understanding of anatomy and physiology is blended with Eastern philosophies of the energetic interactions of the body. This is done primarily through the use of our hands.

Clients come to Spirit Winds for specific complaints such as pain, swelling, lack of motion, or difficulty with a particular task. We ask clients to be specific with their goals in order to best serve them, similar to an airplane pilot asking you, the customer, ìWhere do you want to fly?î

Whether it's pain, swelling, decreased range of motion or difficulty with tasks, it concerns the state of health of your tissues. Health of a tissue is based upon several things:

  • good, soft, strong muscles
  • adequate joint space
  • good arterial supply ñ arteries supply oxygen and nutrients to all cells
  • good venous drainage ñ veins carry deoxygenated blood back to the heart
  • good lymphatic drainage ñ lymph tissues act as the 'garbage' men cleaning and collecting waste
  • good nerve conduction ñ nerves tell other structures in your body to fire at the 'right' time so they function appropriately

Our Techniques

We utilize 3 different approaches to treating your body: Manual Therapy, Low Level Laser Therapy and Exercises.

The use of hands for therapy is called ìManual Therapyî and it is what Spirit Winds Therapy specializes in. The development of these hands skills comes from extensive training in both Integrative Manual TherapyTM and Biovalent SystemsTM. These two approaches, along with techniques specially developed by Michele S. Jang, provide the client with a custom made, powerful, and revolutionary therapy that is able to treat a wide range of ailments.

Integrative Manual Therapy (IMT), an ever-evolving field of manual therapy, was first developed by Sharon W. Giammatteo, PT, PhD, in 1986. IMT aims to relax tense and irritated structures. The structures targeted are anatomy specific and may focus on relaxing a certain aspect of a nerve, artery, vein or organ. One common IMT approach we use gently repositions your body to create an ideal lax environment for the targeted structure to unwind. When there is a release, the tissues in the area soften and relax. A release may feel like the body deeply exhaling after it's been holding its breath. For a more detailed description of IMT, you can log onto www.centerimt.com.

Frank Lowen, LMT, has been developing Biovalent Manual Therapy® since the early 1990's. For a more detailed description of this approach, you can log onto www.biovalentsystems.com. Biovalent Manual Therapy® aims to restore the rhythms in the body. There are many rhythms in the body ñ your heart and respiratory rates are just two of them. Organs, arteries, veins, lymphatic tissues have their own rhythms. Adequate rhythms are necessary for health. If you have difficulty breathing or your heart rate is irregular, this leads to health problems. The same is true for other rhythms. At Spirit Winds, we have been trained to feel these specific subtle rhythms with our hands. Treatment consists of using our hands to assess specific rhythms. We apply a gentle force to those rhythms that are not ideal. The direction of the force is specific to the targeted structure and aims to encourage optimal rate, amplitude, and direction.

Spirit Winds Therapy is also proud to be incorporating Low Level Laser Therapy into our practice with excellent results. All illness, disease processes, and aches and pains involve cells that are not operating at their full potential. Low Level Laser Therapy works by recharging your cells. The Low Level Laser device emits specific wavelengths of light into your body. These specific wavelengths promote the production of an enormous amount of cellular energy known as ATP. This energy can then be used to assist your cells to heal and regenerate faster, reduce and / or eliminate your aches and pains. We have found Low Level Laser Therapy to be beneficial for all ailments. To find out more information on this state of the art light healing device, please ask for our brochure on lasers or visit www.solitonlasers.com or www.laserinformation.com.

At Spirit Winds, we integrate Manual Therapy and Low Level Laser Therapy to decrease tension AND restore optimal rhythm. We will incorporate Exercises to further nurture the gains that have been achieved. We have found clinically that the combination of these approaches is a phenomenal way to help clients reach their goals. Tissue health is restored. Joint mobility and range of motion improve. Muscles are stronger. There appears to be better arterial, venous, and lymphatic circulation, and better nerve conduction based upon improvements in skin color and tone, as well as decreases in swelling and complaints of nerve discomfort and ultimately pain.

Immediately following therapy, the issues in your body may get stirred up, but be assured that this is temporary as your body is reorganizing itself. If you are concerned, please give us a call.
